North West Housing Corporation is a public entity that aims to provide housing to the people of North West Province through housing development and property management as a public entity of the Department of local government and Human Settlement. It is a registered Schedule 3C public entity.

Our Vision

A preferred provider of accommodation and shelter



The entity started in 1982 as Bophuthatswana Housing Corporation (BHC). BHC’s intention was to provide shelter to Bophuthatswana residents with affordable and suitable housing.



After 1994 its name changed to North West Housing Corporation. The North West Provincial government through department of Local government and Human Settlements decided to hand over all the rented stock and installment sale houses to the Entity so that it can be self-sustainable after government grant was stopped. The main business of the Entity is rental stock which includes houses and flats as well as selling of vacant land not only in North West Province but in parts of Gauteng, the Northern Cape and Free State Provinces. Block of flats that the Entity owns can be found in Mafikeng, Tlhabane and Itsoseng townships.



The entity is in line with the Constitution of the Republic of SA 1996 Act 108 of 1996 Chapter 2 sec. 26 (1) viz housing that everyone has the right to have access to adequate housing.


1994 - 2018

The Entity was established for the purpose of providing and furthering the provision of housing and accommodation in 4 provinces, namely, North West, Gauteng, free state and Northern cape. The Entity previously faced financial challenges which made it difficult to honour its financial obligations including municipal debts. In terms of the rented flats the Entity also faced difficulties in registering sectional titles for flats which would have allowed individual tenants to purchase units they are occupying. North West Housing Corporation takes pride in satisfying its customers as it follows the BATHO PELE principles. The Entity takes pride in treating its customers with courtesy and consideration, and makes sure that all customers have equal access to the services they are entitled to. NWHC would like to thank the dedication of its staff, the current tenants who have been patient with us when we were facing financial challenges and the participation of residents without whom the work that we are committed to doing would not be possible.
